Thinai Vegetable Soup - Millets Soup - Foxtail Millet Soup

Thinai  Soup is a Healthy Soup Recipe,made with foxtail millet (thinai) & vegetables. It is also a healthy filling Nutritious breakfast Recipe. Thinai has good amount of fiber content, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and carbohydrates. Foxtail millet known as thinai in Tamil,Kangni/Rala in Hindi,Navane in Kannada,Korra in telugu & thina in Malayalam.This millet  is first of millet varieties that was used in ancient days.Now we will learn to make healthy Soup Recipe.



Thinai Vegetable Soup

 Prep Time : 10 min. 
Cook Time :  20   minutes.

Serves  :   4  . 

Ingredients

Thinai Rice - 1/2 cup.
Water - 2 + 1/2 cup.
Hot water - 1 cup.
boiled Milk - 1 cup.
Carrot - 1.
Beans - 5.
Cabbage - 1/4 cup.(Chopped)
Green Peas - 2 tbsp.
Cauliflower - 2 tbsp.(Chopped).
Pepper Powder - 1 tsp.
salt - As needed.
Cumin Powder - 1/4 tsp.
Pearl onions - 4.
Garlic - 2.
Oil - to fry.

Preparation
  • Soak  Foxtail Millets in water for 15 minutes.
  • Finely Chop onion,Garlic, Carrot,beans,Cabbage & Cauliflower.

Method
  • Heat the oil in a Cooker, add Pearl onions  & Garlic. When  it turns Golden brown add finely Chopped Vegetables &  Green Peas, saute for 4 to  5 minutes in a medium flame.

  • Drain the millet,  add to it & saute for 2 minutes.

  • Add 2 + 1/2 cups of water,  add pepper powder, Cumin powder & salt.Mix well.
  • Pressure Cook for 6 whistles, till it turns soft .
  • When pressure subsides, open the lid, add hot water & boiled milk, Mix well.

  • Mash well with a ladle or  whisk or potato Masher, till it gets Soup Consistency.
Notes
  •  This Soup thickens quickly, so add hot water or milk before serving.
  • you can make this Soup with Barnyard Millet or kodo millet also.
  • you can add any vegetables of your choice.
  • Adjust Pepper Powder according to your taste buds.
  • you can top with little butter,before Serving.
