Ven Pongal - Katte Pongali - (Step Wise Pictures) - khara pongal

Pongal is a authentic recipe in South India. Ven Pongal is also called  Katte Pongali, Kattu Pongal, Nei Pongal,Pongal,Ghee Pongal, Milagu Pongal, Khara Pongal, Uppu Pongal,Pappu Pongal,.It is a Popular breakfast recipe.It is served in a temple as Prasadam.Ven Pongal is Made during Navaratri & Pongal, sankaranthi  Occasions.



Ingredients

Raw rice - 1/2 cup.
Moongdal - 1/4 cup.
Water -  2 + 1/2 cup.
Salt - as required

For Tempering 

Ghee - 3 tbsp.
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp.
Pepper Corns - 1  tsp.
ginger - 1 Inch (chopped)
curry leaves - few
Cashews - 10.


Ven Pongal



Method
  •  Pressure cook Rice and Moongdal together with 2 + 1/2 cups of water  for 1 whistle, then keep it in Sim mode for 5 minutes.Then switch off the flame.

  • When pressure subsides, heat the Ghee in a kadai,add cashews when it turns slightly golden brown colour, add cumin,pepper corns,curry leaves,ginger saute for few seconds till you get nice aroma and keep it aside.
  • Now open the lid, then  mash the pongal with ladle .Add Tempering to Pongal.


  • Stir well and Serve hot.

Katte Pongali
Notes

  • You can also use crushed cumin & Pepper corns to Pongal
  •  Mashing the cooked rice,enhances the taste of pongal.
  • serve hot.
