Puli Aval - Huli Avalakki - Poha Pulihora

Tamarind poha is a Easy  Popular South Indian  recipe made with thick poha,  Tamarind, jaggery and spiced with chilli powder and turmeric powder, which gives tangy,mild sweet and spicy taste to Upma. In karnataka it is also  called Gojjavalakki .You can prepare it easily in no time. Poha is a  beaten  rice and therefore mainly  contains starch and provides carbohydrates, which are essential for the body.Poha comes handy in busy mornings. it is a very simple bachelor recipe.


 
Ingredients

Thick Poha - 2   cup.
Tamarind -  big goosebery Size.
chilli powder - 1 + 1/2 tsp.
jaggery - 1 tsp.
Red chillies - 2.
curry leaves - 1 sprig.
salt - to taste.

coconut - 1/4 cup. 


To Temper 

oil - To fry.
mustard Seeds - 1/2  tsp.
urad dal- 1 tsp
Channa dal - 1tbsp.
Roasted Peanuts - 2 tbsp.
hing - generous pinch.


Preparation 
  •  Prepare Tamarind Extract with 3/4  cup of water.
  • Take a Mixing bowl, add poha wash it once with running water,then drain it, add tamarind juice, chilli powder, salt to it . mix well. Let it sit aside for 15 - 20 minutes. Till it becomes soft.

Method
  • Heat the oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds when it  splutters, add channa dal, urad dal, curry leaves, red chillies, hing,peanuts .


  • when dal's turns golden brown colour  add soaked poha  that we prepared already.stir it for few  minutes till the moisture off.Then add grated coconut.
  • stir it for  2  more  min in a medium flame, till everything combines.


  • Serve hot with pappads or chips.
