Chikkudukaya Vepudu - Avarakkai poriyal - Broad Beans Stir fry

Chikkudukaya Vepudu is a healthy curry made with Chikkudukaya(Broad Beans) & Chana dal. This curry Goes well with Chapathi,Roti,Sambar Rice or Rasam Rice.Vitamin C in Broad beans boost the immune system.Calcium present in Broad beans helps in development of teeth & bones.Now we will see the preparation of Vepudu.

Chikkudukaya Vepudu

 Prep Time : 10  min. 
Cook Time :  15 -18     minutes.

Broad Beans - 300 gms.
Chana dal - 3 tbsp.
Onion - 2.
Salt - to taste.

To Temper

oil - to fry.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Hing - a Generous Pinch.
Curry leaves - 1 Sprig.
Red chillies - 2.


  • Wash  the beans. String it  & Keep it aside.
  • Chop the broad beans as shown in the Picture.
  • Cook the chanadal till soft with needed water in a pressure cooker or a Pan.

    • Heat the oil, add mustard seeds when it splutters add cumin seeds.When it sizzles add broken Red chillies,curry leaves & hing. 

    • Saute for few seconds, then add   Chopped Onions.Saute till it turns Pink. Add Chopped  broad beans with little salt.Saute in high flame for 2 minutes. Then Cook it covered with medium low flame.Saute now & then.

    • When broad beans turns soft, add Cooked Chanadal.Mix well. Cook till the moisture in chanadal Goes off . Now Chikkudukaya Vepudu is Ready.

    • Adding Cooked Chanadal gives nice taste to curry.
    • Adjust the Red chillies according to your spice level.
