Beerakaya Thokku Pachadi - Ridge Gourd Skin Chutney - Heerekai Sippe Chutney

Beerakaya Thokku Chutney is a healthy chutney recipe made with skin of Beerakaya(Ridge Gourd),Peanuts & s.we reserve

he skin of Ridge Gourd because it is nutritious. This Chutney Goes well with idli,dosa,chapathi & hot steamed rice. Normally we reserve the skin of Ridge Gourd to make chutney & flesh of the veggie , we use to make sambar or curry.This is our authentic Grany's Recipe.


Beerakaya Thokku Pachadi

Ingredients

Skin of 1 Ridge Gourd Peeled.
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Garlic - 4.
Green Chillies - 2 - 3.
Tomato - 1.
Roasted Peanuts - 2 tbsp.
salt - to taste.

To Temper

Oil - to fry.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
Red Chillies - 1.
Hing - A Generous Pinch.


Preparation

Peel the Skin of Ridge Gourd. (While peeling ridge Gourd grate & remove slightly the thick skin of Ridge Gourd from its Edges).




Method

Heat the oil in a kadai, add Ridge Gourd saute for 4 - 5 minutes, in a Medium high  flame. Remove it from the kadai & allow it to cool.



In same kadai, add little oil, add cumin seeds,when it sizzles, add Garlic & Green chillies .When Garlic turns Golden brown, add tomatoes & saute till it turns mushy.



Finally add Roasted Peanuts give a quick mix, then add salt & Grind it along with fried Ridge Gourd skin to a smooth chutney.

Heat the oil add mustard seeds when it splutters add urad dal, & broken Red chilly. when dals turns colour slightly switch off the flame, add a Generous pinch of  hing, give a quick mix & pour over a chutney.Beerakaya Thokku Pachadi is Ready to Serve.



Notes

  • I used tomato, instead you can use tamarind also.
  • Instead of Peanuts you can use  fried chana dal  & urad dal.
  • While peeling ridge Gourd Grate & remove slightly the thick skin of Ridge Gourd from its Edges.
  • It is not necessary to remove the skin of Ridge Gourd.
