Masala Poori (Coimbatore Style) - Spicy Masala Poori chat Recipe

Masala Poori is a Popular Indian street Chaat Recipe.it is also a kid's chaat Recipe. I am a big fan of Masala Poori's. Coimbatore is famous for Masala Poori's.In coimbatore near my area, in Each and every corner of the street, they sell this chaat at evenings. Weekly twice i use to have it.At times my mother gets this to home. After eating masala poori's, if masala remains, we will mix with pori(borugulu) and have.Even now if i go to coimbatore i never  miss it. I learnt this recipe from my cousin viji Aunty. she is expert in doing all these chaat items. 


 Ingredients

Small poori's 

For Masala 
 
White peas - 1/2  cup.
Green Peas - 1/2 cup.
Cinnamon - 1.
cloves - 1.
Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp. 
coriander leaves - 1 hand ful.
Mint leaves - 1 fisful.

To Grind

Ginger - 1 inch.
Garlic - 15.(small size)

coriander powder - 1 tsp.
boiled potatoes - 2(Medium size)

chilli Powder - 1 tsp.
salt - to taste.
Cinnamon - 1.
cloves - 1.
Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp.



Topping

Grated Carrot - 2 (Medium Size).
Onion - 1 (finely chopped).

Preparation

Soak the peas overnight or 7 to 8 hrs . Then boil peas till mushy with needed water.
boil the potato and keep aside.

Method
  • Grind everything given in a To Grind column with 2 tbsp of cooked peas and needed water. Now masala paste is ready.
  •  Heat the pan or kadai, add oil, saute cinnamon,cloves and fennel seeds for few seconds, till u get good smell.
  • Then add chopped coriander leaves,mint leaves for few seconds till leaves shrinks.
  • Then add  Masala Paste, stir for few minutes, till the raw smell goes.
  • Then add cooked peas with needed water.(u could also use boiled peas water) mix well. let it boil for few minutes, till everthing combines. Now masala is ready.

Serving Method
  • Grate carrots,chop onions and handful of coriander leaves finely.
  • Get Mini Poori's, make a break at the centre of poori's to get a hole.
    Spoon with masala's into each Poori's.
  • Mix grated carrots+Onions+chopped coriander leaves. sprinkle it on each Poori's and serve.

Note: You can mix this masala with pori and serve as bhel poori.
