Poondu Kuzhambu - Poondu Puli kuzhambu - Velluli Pulusu

 Poondu Kuzhambu is an authentic & healthy South Indian Kuzhambu Recipe, made with Garlic & Spice Powders. This Kuzhambu is delicious with plain Rice, dal Rice & Curd Rice too. Garlic simmered in tamarind juice, is delectable. Garlic has antioxidants & anti Cancer Properties. it also lowers bad cholestral. It improves digestion & immune System. Try to have this kuzhambu,  atleast weekly once in your regular food meal.






Poondu Kuzhambu

Serves : 2 - 3

Ingredients

Onion - 1.

Tomato - 2.

Garlic - handful( 2 Cloves).

tamarind - small Goosebery size.

Corainder Powder - 1.5 tsp.

Chilli Powder - 1 tsp.

Salt - as Needed.

Curry leaves - 1 Sprig.

Coriander leaves - few (for Garnishing)

To Temper

oil - as Needed (preferably sesame oil)

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.

FenuGreek seeds - 1/4 tsp.

Hing - a Generous Pinch.




Preparation

1. Put the Garlic in a small bowl of hot water for 1/2 an hour. Then remove the skin, placing the garlic in hot water helps in easy peeling of Garlic Skin.
2. Chop the onions & tomatoes.
3. Soak the tamarind in 1/2 cup of water, for 1/2 an hour,then throw the Pulp & retain the juice.

Method

1. Heat the oil, add Mustard seeds. When it splutters, add Methi seeds & hing. Add curry leaves.

3. Give a quick mix. 


4. Add Chopped onions, saute for a Minute.


5. Add Garlic Saute for 2 - 3 Minutes. 



6. Add tomatoes, add chilli Powder,Coriander Powder, turmeric Powder & salt.


7. Cook in a Medium flame, till tomatoes turns Mushy.


8. Add tamarind juice, adjust water.(i have added 1/4 cup of water).


9. Cook for few minutes, till oil oozes & it gets kuzhambu Consistency.


10. Garnish with fresh Coriander leaves.

Notes

1. you can replace onions with Pearl onions.

2. you replace chilli powder & coriander powder with Sambar Powder.

3. you can add 1 tbsp of coconut paste at the last.
