Methi Matar Malai - Rich Creamy Gravy - Side Dish for Naan, Tandoori Roti & kulcha.

 Methi Matar Malai is a Winter Recipe. It is Made with Fresh Methi leaves, Peas & Cream as Main Ingredients. Methi leaves & cooked peas are simmered in Rich Creamy sauce. This is a Rich,creamy Gravy. Taste & flavour of this Gravy is so unique,than other Gravies.  We get Fresh  Methi leaves & Fresh Peas, only during Winters. So it is a Winter Gravy. We can make this recipe with frozen Green peas too. But fresh peas always tastes Great. Methi Matar Malai pairs well with chapathi,roti,Naan, plain kulcha & Basmathi Rice.



Methi Matar Malai

 Prep Time : 20  min.

Ingredients

Fresh Methi leaves - 1.5 cup.

Green Peas - 3/4 cup.

Boiled Milk - 1/2 cup.

Cream - 1/4 Cup.

salt - to taste.

oil - to fry 

Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp.

To Fry & Grind

Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.

Green chillies - 2.

Ginger - 1/2 inch.

Garlic - 4 (Medium size)

Big onion - 1.

cashews - 15.

Poppy seeds - 1 tsp.

Preparation

Clean the Methi leaves, &  chop it. keep it aside.


Chop the onion, Garlic &  Ginger.


Method

1. Cook 3/4 cup of  peas with needed water in a pan or vessel, till it turns Soft.you can even steam cook the peas.

2. Heat the kadai or pan, add  1/2 tsp cumin seeds.

3. when it sizzles, add Roughly  chopped Garlic(4),Ginger(1/2 inch) & Green chillies (2). Saute for a Minute.

4. Add  a chopped  onion &  15 Cashews. Saute till onions turns transparent. 

5.Then add a tsp of poppy seeds. Give a quick mix, then switch off the flame.

6. Then Grind this to a smooth paste, with needed water. Now Paste is Ready for Gravy.

7. Heat the oil, or Ghee add Ground paste, dilute it with little water. 

8. Cook for few minutes till the raw smell Goes.

9. Add chopped Methi leaves. 

11. Saute now & then till it is cooked. it takes nearly 5 minutes to cook the methi leaves.

12. Then add cooked Green peas,(adjust water).  Cook for   for 2 minutes.

13.  Then add 1/2 cup Milk. Simmer the flame. Let it cook for 3 - 4 minutes, in Milk.

14. Add 1/4 tsp Garam Masala. Give a quick mix. 

15. Then add Cream, let it cook for 2 minutes, in cream.  Then switch off the flame. Methi Matar Malai is Ready .

Serve with Naan, Roti, kulcha, plain Tandoori Roti & Basmathi Rice.


Notes

  • Always use Fresh Methi leaves for best Results.
  • After adding Milk or cream, cook in sim mode, else if flame is high milk may Get curdled.
  • Adding Poppy Seeds, Gives nice flavour to Gravy.
