Dabbakaya Pulihora - Narthangai Sadam - Heralekai Chitranna

Citron Rice(Dabbakaya Pulihora) is an Easy Rice Recipe, made in Jiffy.Rice made with citron will be with distinct tangy taste, and flavour.Citron lime contains potassium which also improves heart health. This juice with warm water is also a blood purifier, cleansing and purifying the liver. The fruit  has flavonoid components which have antioxidant properties.citron fruit has vitamin C, which enhances the immunity and helps the body fight off infection.During  this occasion of Navaratri, you can make this flavourful Variety Rice & serve the Guest.





Ingredients
Cooked Rice /Left over Rice  - 2 cups (heaped).
Citron juice - 2 tbsp.
oil - 1 tbsp + 1 tsp. [Preferably Sesame oil].
Turmeric - 1/8 tsp.
coriander leaves - 1 fistful (chopped).

Tempering

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
urad dal - 1  tsp.
Chanadal - 1 tbsp.
Red chillies -2.
Green Chillies - 2.
Curry leaves - 1 sprig.
hing - 1/8 tsp.

 Preparation
  • Add 1 tsp of  sesame oil, over the cooked rice, and seperate the Grains. Allow the rice to cool completely.
  • Collect the citron in a bowl, add salt. Mix well and keep it aside.


Method
  • Heat the oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, chanadal, Red chillies, Green chillies  & curry leaves. Saute till dals turns golden brown.
  • Add hing, turmeric, & citron juice.Give a quick stir and switch off the flame. 

  • Then add cooked rice, Mix well.  Give a standing time of 30 minutes. Then Serve with Pappad or  any Poriyal.


Notes
  • Do not squeeze the juice too much. it may give bitter taste to Rice.
  • Adding 1/2 inch of Grated Ginger also gives nice flavours.
  • you can add 2 tbsp of Roasted Peanuts, after tempering.
  • you can also use orange juicer to collect the juice.

I love Narthangai. Amma usually makes gojju with it. Preparing rice is a great idea. love it.
